Initiate smoke machine – Diesel powered ST

For those of you that love hot hatch backs and literally like leaving people in the dust, you will be very excited to hear that there is a Diesel powered version of the Focus ST is on it’s way, whether we are getting them here in sunny South Africa is another question, but the fact that it actually exists, this is awesome news!

I believe that Ford have created this tar ripping monster to compete with the VW Golf GTD. Yes folks, the “D” stands for diesel. (Not sure if we are getting this car in South Africa either). Competition is not a bad thing, I just hope that they have created the ST diesel to be the best diesel powered hot hatch that it can be and not just a funny sounding cousin of the hero petrol ST that will fill a gap in the ever growing automotive market.

What can we expect from this distance covering, tank sounding brute? Performance is quoted at 0-100 km/h in 8.1sec and a top speed of +-220 km/h, plus some say that the ST diesel offers on average around 4 litres/100km and 114g/km of CO². Pretty impressive, but then again the technology in modern day diesel engines have come along way. If car manufacturers could find a way to turn down that “uuurrgggghhh” engine sound and replace it with a “grrrrrrr” engine sound, I believe that the majority of people in the hot hatch market would opt for the less thirsty, more efficient diesel cousin.

The future is looking, well a little more smokey but with less stops to the petrol station.

PS, we love Recaro!

It is pretty obvious that I like cars, wait, LOVE cars, but apart from that, I like to run too. I have a funny feeling that these two interests are somehow related. A bit like coffee and waking up, which are my next two favourite things!
